Planning is half the fun!!

After two years and only one change of plans, our group of six Alaskan hikers are ready for our next adventure.

This time we are staying in the USA and hiking parts of the Appalachian trail. We chose Vermont after Tammy talked to a very helpful travel guide from the area who told her of the beautiful fall colors and great B&B's we would experience.

We have two new hikers this time, Sue and Bonnie. Sue and I have hiked in Australia and France in the past and have had great times together so I am really looking forward to hiking with her again.

Sue and I will leave Fairbanks on Sept. 28th flying to Boston and staying in an AirBnB.  The others arrive on Sept. 30th, the next day we fly to Rutland and start hiking.

Here is our schedule:

Sat 1 Oct           Shoreham Inn, Shoreham — 1790 tavern in the midst of Vermont’s “Land of Milk and Honey” (dairy farms,     apple orchards, and apiaries), and home to a popular European-style gastropub, where you’ll kick off your tour with a memorable dinner
Sun 2 Oct         Swift House Inn, Middlebury — former Vermont governor’s restored family manse in cosmopolitan college village; carriage house rooms; a select Registry inn
Mon 3 Oct         Chipman Inn, Ripton — mother/son innkeepers welcome you to Robert Frost Country in this 1828 home, perched high in a mountainside hamlet
Tue 4 Oct          Blueberry Hill Inn, Goshen — secluded hilltop retreat surrounded by thousands of acres of conservation land and miles of hiking trails
Wed 5 Oct         Blueberry Hill Inn, second night
Thur 6 Oct         Lilac Inn, Brandon — posh 1909 Newport-style mansion in the Art & Soul village of Vermont, the feel is of a small luxury hotel with personal service to match
Fri 7 Oct            October Country Inn, Bridgewater Corners — always a guest favorite, with delectable dining, hosts knowledgeable about Appalachian Trail hiking nearby, and proximity to the picture-postcard villages of Woodstock and Plymouth Notch
Sat 8 Oct           October Country Inn, second night
Sun 9 Oct          Crisanver House, Shrewsbury — our most luxurious inn, with sweeping westerly views, gracious and experienced hosts, and all the best appointments; Select Registry
Mon 10 Oct       Crisanver House, second night (two night stays required at this inn during foliage season)

Tues. 11 Oct.    Return to Boston, Stay Alfred Boston Harbor, 
Wed. 12 Oct.    Explore Boston
Thurs. 13 Oct.  Leave Boston on United Air fly to Charlottesville, VA.
                         Stay at "By Side of Road" B&B hike daily

Sun. 16 Oct.     We each leave to our own destinations until our next hike together!!
